We have a great experience with Four Winds Restoration and specifically with Shawn. We had a huge water leak from upstairs toilets, to a point that the walls in the bathroom downstairs were completely wet. You could press a finger on the wall and leave the print! Shawn came the same day we called him, and installed a few fans and dehumidifier. He came in to check in a few days, and he added a couple more fans a few extra fays, with no extra charge. After a week, our walls and ceilings are completely dry now and we're waiting to get the walls sand and painted. Overall, very happy with my experience with Shaw. He was responsive, on time, and professional.

Absolutely top tier service from these guys. Had a leak from my next door neighbour, who tried to change his bath spout on his own and as result the insulated wall separating our units + 4 other walls were wet and probably had been for over a week before I noticed. Our strata's restoration company quoted over 5K just dry the walls and said the joint wall would 100% have to be demo'd and replaced. Called 4winds and Shawn was very reassuring on the phone that mold wasn't 100% certain and they could be onsite the same day to fix the issue at a fraction of the price. After 4 days of getting a bunch of fans and a dehumidifier going we dried every wall including the insulated one and now the only thing I need to replace are two pieces of baseboards. Cannot thank these guys enough and Shawn was super friendly, honest, and quick to respond to questions and concerns. Would give a 6th star if possible!

Excellent service, quick response, and great repair work. I had a water leak from an old laundry machine at my place. Shawn came right away to inspect the damage and to dry everything. Luckily, only a small area of the floor needed to be replaced (included removing and reinstalling the hot water tank) and the stain in the ceiling below was painted. The team finished everything in one day and it looks great. They also installed an additional power outlet for the new dryer.

Expert Answers to Critical Fire Damage Questions

Smoke damage is progressive and continues long after flames are extinguished. Acidic soot residue begins corroding metals and etching glass within hours. As temperatures cool, smoke particles become more firmly embedded in porous materials. Chemical compounds in smoke continue to oxidize and release odors for weeks. Our emergency response focuses on neutralizing these acidic residues immediately while implementing humidity control to prevent additional absorption of smoke compounds into materials.
Standard cleaning approaches often worsen fire damage by embedding soot deeper into materials or creating permanent staining through improper techniques. Different types of fires (protein, synthetic, natural materials) create chemically different residues requiring specific cleaning agents and methods. Our technicians identify the specific type of fire residue present and implement appropriate cleaning protocols that address the unique chemical composition of each type of smoke damage.
Smoke odor persists because microscopic particles penetrate deeply into porous materials and continue to release odor molecules over time. Our deodorization process combines multiple approaches: HEPA filtration removes airborne particles, surface cleaning eliminates residues, and specialized equipment like thermal foggers and hydroxyl generators neutralize embedded odor molecules by changing their chemical structure rather than simply masking them.
Often yes, but quick action is essential. Smoke residue is conductive and corrosive to circuit boards and components. Our electronics restoration process includes specialized cleaning of exterior surfaces followed by careful internal cleaning using non-conductive solutions. We coordinate with certified electronics technicians for testing and repair of affected systems. Success rates are highest when restoration begins within 48 hours of the fire event.
This complex damage scenario requires a coordinated approach. We first address safety hazards and extract standing water. Specialized moisture detection equipment identifies all water-affected areas. We implement targeted drying while simultaneously beginning appropriate smoke residue cleaning. This integrated approach prevents secondary damage like mold growth while addressing the primary fire and smoke damage, all coordinated by a dedicated project manager who oversees the entire restoration process.
Our comprehensive documentation includes detailed room-by-room inventories of damage, high-resolution photographs, thermal imaging scans showing hidden damage, and itemized restoration plans. We provide scientific testing results for smoke residue and air quality when applicable. Our insurance specialists prepare all required documentation formats and work directly with adjusters to ensure your claim accurately reflects the full scope of fire damage, maximizing your coverage while simplifying the claims process.
We conduct detailed assessments using both visual inspection and specialized testing. Structural materials are evaluated for heat damage and load-bearing capacity. Contents are assessed based on the level of smoke penetration, heat exposure, and material composition. We utilize industry-standard restoration vs. replacement cost analyses while considering factors beyond just economics – including sentimental value, historical significance, and restoration timeframes – to provide recommendations that balance all relevant factors.
During reconstruction, we can implement numerous improvements: upgrading to fire-resistant building materials, installing fire-rated doors and glass, improving compartmentalization to limit spread of future fires, upgrading electrical systems with arc-fault protection, and applying intumescent coatings to structural elements. We can also install improved detection and suppression systems. Many of these upgrades qualify for insurance or municipal incentives and can significantly reduce both the risk and potential severity of future fire events.
