Four Winds Restoration | Water Damage Restoration

Professional Mould Removal Services

Mould infestations differ fundamentally from other property damage. Unlike visible fire or water damage, mould often grows silently behind walls, under floors, and in ceiling cavities—releasing microscopic spores that can affect indoor air quality and potentially impact health. Our certified mould remediation specialists bring scientific protocols and specialized equipment designed specifically to address these unique challenges.

Types of Mould Problems We Address

Category 1: Bathroom & Kitchen Mould Remediation

High-moisture bathrooms often develop mould. Our specialists clean porous surfaces, fix ventilation, remove damaged caulking, treat hidden areas, and apply moisture-resistant coatings to prevent mould from returning.

Category 2: Basement & Crawlspace Mould Solutions

Below-grade areas often trap moisture. We remove damaged materials, fix seepage, install vapor barriers, dehumidify, treat structures, repair insulation, and improve drainage to stop future mould growth.

Category 3: Attic & Roof Leak Mould Remediation

Poor ventilation and roof leaks cause attic mould. Our specialists repair ventilation, fix leaks, replace contaminated insulation, treat structural wood, and improve air sealing to prevent condensation and future mould growth.

We have a great experience with Four Winds Restoration and specifically with Shawn. We had a huge water leak from upstairs toilets, to a point that the walls in the bathroom downstairs were completely wet. You could press a finger on the wall and leave the print! Shawn came the same day we called him, and installed a few fans and dehumidifier. He came in to check in a few days, and he added a couple more fans a few extra fays, with no extra charge. After a week, our walls and ceilings are completely dry now and we're waiting to get the walls sand and painted. Overall, very happy with my experience with Shaw. He was responsive, on time, and professional.

Absolutely top tier service from these guys. Had a leak from my next door neighbour, who tried to change his bath spout on his own and as result the insulated wall separating our units + 4 other walls were wet and probably had been for over a week before I noticed. Our strata's restoration company quoted over 5K just dry the walls and said the joint wall would 100% have to be demo'd and replaced. Called 4winds and Shawn was very reassuring on the phone that mold wasn't 100% certain and they could be onsite the same day to fix the issue at a fraction of the price. After 4 days of getting a bunch of fans and a dehumidifier going we dried every wall including the insulated one and now the only thing I need to replace are two pieces of baseboards. Cannot thank these guys enough and Shawn was super friendly, honest, and quick to respond to questions and concerns. Would give a 6th star if possible!

Excellent service, quick response, and great repair work. I had a water leak from an old laundry machine at my place. Shawn came right away to inspect the damage and to dry everything. Luckily, only a small area of the floor needed to be replaced (included removing and reinstalling the hot water tank) and the stain in the ceiling below was painted. The team finished everything in one day and it looks great. They also installed an additional power outlet for the new dryer.

Expert Answers to Critical Mould Questions

Mould exposure affects individuals differently depending on sensitivity and exposure levels. Common reactions include respiratory symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and throat irritation; eye irritation; nasal congestion; and skin irritation. People with asthma, allergies, or compromised immune systems may experience more severe reactions. Some moulds produce mycotoxins that may cause more serious health effects with prolonged exposure. Professional remediation eliminates these risks by safely removing mould colonies and improving indoor air quality.
DIY cleaning often addresses only visible mould while missing hidden growth behind walls, under floors, or in HVAC systems. Professional remediation includes comprehensive assessment using specialized equipment to detect hidden mould, proper containment to prevent cross-contamination, complete removal of affected materials, HEPA air filtration, and addressing the underlying moisture source. Professionals also use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow established protocols that minimize health risks during the removal process—something DIY approaches typically lack.
We implement a multi-layered containment approach. First, we establish negative air pressure in affected areas using HEPA-filtered air scrubbers that prevent spores from migrating to clean areas. Physical containment barriers using 6-mil polyethylene sheeting create sealed work zones. Decontamination chambers for workers and equipment prevent tracking of spores outside the work area. All remediation activities follow a specific workflow from cleanest to most contaminated areas. This systematic approach ensures that unaffected areas of your property remain protected throughout the remediation process.
Yes, we can identify mould types through laboratory analysis of samples. While all moulds should be removed regardless of type, identification helps determine appropriate remediation protocols and potential health risks. For example, certain moulds require more stringent containment procedures or specialized removal techniques. Identification also helps in addressing specific moisture conditions that favor particular mould species, allowing for more effective prevention strategies. Our comprehensive assessment includes sampling when necessary to ensure the most appropriate remediation approach.
Preventing recurrence requires addressing the underlying moisture source—whether it’s plumbing leaks, condensation issues, poor ventilation, or water intrusion. Our process includes identifying and resolving these moisture problems, thoroughly drying affected areas, removing all mould-contaminated materials, and applying antimicrobial treatments where appropriate. We also provide recommendations for humidity control, ventilation improvements, and maintenance practices tailored to your specific property. Post-remediation verification testing confirms successful removal before we consider the project complete.
Our comprehensive documentation includes detailed assessment reports with photographs, moisture readings, and scope of affected areas; laboratory testing results when applicable; complete remediation protocols implemented; daily progress reports; post-remediation verification testing; and preventative recommendations. We provide itemized cost breakdowns that meet insurance requirements and can communicate directly with adjusters to explain technical aspects of the remediation process. This thorough documentation maximizes coverage potential while simplifying the claims process for property owners.
Timeline varies based on the extent of contamination, types of affected materials, and underlying moisture issues. Small, localized problems might require only 2-3 days, while extensive contamination affecting multiple rooms or systems could take 1-2 weeks. The process includes assessment (1-2 days), containment setup (1 day), removal of affected materials (1-5 days depending on scope), drying (2-4 days), and verification testing (1-2 days). We provide detailed timelines during initial assessment and keep clients updated on progress throughout the project.
HVAC systems require specialized remediation approaches as they can distribute mould spores throughout a building. Our HVAC mould remediation includes inspection of all system components; containment to prevent cross-contamination; removal and replacement of contaminated insulation; HEPA vacuuming of all surfaces; detailed cleaning of coils, drip pans, and ductwork; application of appropriate antimicrobial treatments; and addressing condensation or humidity issues within the system. We coordinate with licensed HVAC technicians when mechanical repairs or modifications are needed to prevent future mould growth.
